The Performative Silence Meal was organized as part of the Fragile Human Exhibition and Symposium on 8.10.2022 in Berlin at re:future Lab.

THE FRAGILE HUMAN refers to the upheavals of the present and to our uncertain, hazardous, and trembling existence. How to stay hopeful and envisage sustainable ways to navigate towards a better future? The experience will be nurtured with a keynote about some fragments of inspiration related to silence, fragility, the human and mundane product – be it in art history, philosophy, music, design and culture, an exhibition of contextual design, the smell of clay, loam the taste of radically local seasonal food, and the unspoken commonality of a Silence Meal.

The Silence Meal is a performative dining experience hosted by the Finnish artist Nina Backman. The meal follows a specific frame and is officially opened when the artist sits down. The Silence Meal presents its guests with an opportunity to observe what emerges in place of unspoken interaction.

The event included an interview with art critic Gesine Borcherdt.
